About me
Mystique Romana-Hiko is a Māori filmmaker based in Tāmaki Makaurau. She studied at Yoobee South Seas Film School, specialising in post-production and graduating in 2023 with a Diploma in Film and Television Production. Mystique made her editing debut on the short film Teine by Giselle Ilaoa, and the documentary Tūtemohutatanga, directed by Vik Pahewa-Johnson. Her most recent work includes the Day One short film O Alofa Nei, O Alofa Nā, with Ilaoa returning as director.
Proficiencies & skills
Offline/Online Editor
Mystique is proficient in both offline and online editing, with experience across narrative and documentary projects. She works confidently with Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and DaVinci Resolve. She also has skills in colour correction, syncing, basic motion graphics, and efficient media management.
Script Supervisor/Continuity
Alongside her post-production work, Mystique has experience as a script supervisor, with a strong eye for continuity across scenes and setups. She ensures consistency in performance, props, wardrobe, and blocking, maintaining detailed notes to support directors and editors throughout the production and post-production process.
D.I.T
Mystique also has experience working as a Digital Imaging Technician (D.I.T), managing on-set data wrangling, backups, and media organisation to ensure the safe transfer of footage from camera to post.
