Script to Screen's Big Screen Symposium is Aotearoa’s premier gathering for screen industry professionals, offering two days packed with thought-provoking kōrero, masterclasses, workshops, and panel discussions. Ki Te Hoe

Congratulations to Te Puna Creative Innovation Quarter, Screen Auckland and Te Kawerau ā Maki for hosting a successful wānanga

Ki te Hoe: Cultural Competency and Tikanga-based Engagement in the Screen Industry.

Te Kawerau ā Maki presented their filming protocol framework informing industry practitioners such as producers and location managers about how to engage with them when seeking permissions to film in their rohe.

It was a case study about how similar processes could be established and communicated around the motu.

Kauwaka Te Ipurangi

Kauwaka Te Ipurangi 2025 was the inaugural hui that brought together Māori leaders, digital innovators, and creatives to shape the future of internet governance in Aotearoa. Key kōrero highlighted the importance of digital sovereignty and protecting mātauranga Māori online—issues that directly impact our Māori screen industry. By advocating for Māori-led digital frameworks and equitable access, the hui hopes to strengthen opportunities for Māori storytellers to create, share, and safeguard our narratives in the digital age. This kaupapa supports our ongoing mission to ensure authentic Māori voices thrive across all screen platforms.

Congratulations to our Deputy Chair, Dr Julian Wilcox for completing his Doctorate in Philosophy in Indigenous studies at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi with a thesis on Te ara a Kupe: Te haerenga mai a Kupe ki Aotearoa.

Aho Wānanga: Puoro me te Ao Pāpāho

Our Puoro me te Ao Pāpāho wānanga was held on the 30th April with APRA Amcos, proudly supported by NZ on Air and MC'd by the awesome Stacey Morrison!

We were lucky enough to hear from a range of stakeholders and specialists about their roles and responsibilities working with music on screen.

A big thanks to all who attended and a special mihi to our knowledgable kaikōrero, MC, performers; MELODOWNZ and Nikau Grace, and the teams behind the scene providing the manaakitanga.

We are currently working on video resources to share our kōrero with you all, so keep your karu peeled.

On 6-8 May we co-hosted NZ Screen Production Rebate workshops with WIFT NZ.

NZFC shared about the screen production rebate for local productions, co-productions and how our members could access it to support their projects.
